Kenneth Michaely Obituary

Kenneth Clyde Michaely 31 January 1947- 27 March 2024

Our family is saddened by the passing of Ken on 27 March, 2024.  Ken leaves his wife of 53 years Dianne and his son Rene, daughter in law Michelle, and Grandkids Sawyer and Sage.

Ken also leaves his sister Shirley and her husband Reg Martin, and numerous relatives.

Ken was born in Rossland, BC on the 31 January, 1947. His parents Clyde Michaely and Bertha Pascoe preceded him in death, along with his sisters, Velma and her husband John, and Marguerite and her husband John, and a brother John (Sonny).

Ken graduated in 1965 from J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary High School in Rossland.  In 1965, he started his Pipefitter-Gasfitter apprenticeship at Cominco in Kimberley. He worked there until 1972. Ken met Dianne and they were married July 17, 1971 in Kimberley.

They moved to Quesnel in 1972 and Ken worked for Weldwood Plywood Plant from 1972 to 1989 as a pipefitter working out of the boiler house.  He was involved with the IWA union as a Job Steward 1973-1980, Safety Committee Chairperson, Plant Chairperson 1980-1986, Business Agent from 1986-1989, where he looked after operations in Prince George, Quesnel, Vanderhoof, Ft. St. James, Fraser Lake and Mackenzie. After Ken retired he did shutdown maintenance work at Weldwood and the Prince George Pulp & Paper Mill.

Ken was also involved with the Scout Organization in Quesnel; from Beavers, Cubs to Scouts as a leader.  He was also a volunteer fireman in Quesnel.

If anything needed fixing, Ken could do it.  He loved tinkering with anything electronic, and with old tube radios.

Ken loved his family, and spent many weekends cheering his son at hockey, soccer, golf games and tournaments around the province; also fishing and camping.  Holidays were trips to Disneyland and travelling along the Oregon coast, and in many US States.

After retirement, Ken fished with friends around the Island catching halibut, salmon, cod; and prawns.

The longest trip was 3 months in an RV with Dianne and her Mom and Dad across Canada to Nova Scotia, along the US Eastern coast line to Florida and across the southern States and back up the Oregon coast.

Ken and Dianne got the cruise bug in 2009 and cruised to Alaska 4 times, on a river cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg, several trips to the Caribbean, through the Panama, to New Zealand and Australia, and a cruise from Honolulu to Vancouver after spending a week in Oahu, Hawaii.

The most fun trip was with Rene and family to an all inclusive resort in Tulum Mexico. Another fun trip was to an all inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to celebrate a cousins 80th. Birthday.

Ken is cremated and his wish was no service.  If you wish you can make donations to BC Cancer, or to support the new cancer centre at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.  They were there for Ken in his many years battling cancer.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
