Colleen Ettinger

The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Colleen Elizabeth Ettinger on July 4, 2026 at her Kiwanis Lodge residence. Born in Nanaimo, BC on May 4, 1939, to the late Colin and Winnifred McKenzie.

Colleen is survived by her three daughters, Sue (Mark), Roberta, Barbara (Doug). Grandchildren: Liam, Stephanie, Justin, Jessica, Colby. Great Grandchild: Theo. Colleen's surviving siblings: Thomas (Georgie), Wendy (Gordon), Robert (Angela). She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.

She was a proud Southender and third-generation Nanaimoite. Colleen loved the outdoors, lifelong learning, crafting, playing bridge, she found great enjoyment in volunteering at the local school libraries where she shared her joy of reading with children.

Long before it was commonplace Colleen was a champion of recycling, right down to bread clips and rubbberbands from the delivered newspapers. Her joyful hoots of celebration while on a winning streak at cards or dominos became familiar and cherished sounds to her family. Colleen will be remembered for her adventurous spirit and wonderful sense of humor.

Her family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Forth Floor staff for their exceptional care for the last 4 years while she lived at Kiwanis Lodge. Colleen will be celebrated in a private family service.
