Donald Nesbit Hamilton

January 21, 1946 – August 19, 2026

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald Nesbit Hamilton, who passed peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 80, with his family lovingly by his side.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Nancy Hamilton, and his brother, Robby Hamilton.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Diana and Rick Ketch; his children, Paula and Jason Guild, Melissa and Chris Ansell, Robert and Angela Hamilton, and Amanda and Chris Temos; and his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lochlan, Matthew, Dace, Kostas, and Nikos. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and will be deeply missed by his extended family and dear friends whose lives he touched along the way.

Don was a hardworking man who spent his life embracing the outdoors and adventure. He worked as a truck driver, a Conservation Officer, and later as a Dude Wrangler and trail guide. He loved the mountains, lakes, rivers, wildlife, and the freedom of the open country. His work and adventures took him through many places and left him with a lifetime of stories and memories that he shared with those around him.

As the words of a song by his beloved Ian Tyson remind us:

“And the last time I saw him, he was riding away…”

May Don now be riding freely again—over the mountains, across the meadows, rivers and endless lakes, with his cowboy hat on, chasing the horizon, breathing in the mountain air, and finally at peace.

A life well lived. A journey well travelled.

The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at AgeCare Malaspina for all the wonderful care they provided Dad. Over time, they became more than caregivers—they became family. Their kindness, compassion, patience, and genuine care meant so much to Dad and to all of us. We will always be grateful for the love and support they gave him. Those who wish to do so may make a donation in support of Parkinson’s research.

In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. This was a decision he made for himself, and his family will honour his wishes. Instead, those who knew and loved Don are invited to remember him in their own way—through the stories, adventures, laughter, and memories that made him who he was.

Ride on, Mountain Man.
