Courtenay, British Columbia
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Fred Blackburn.
Fred died peacefully on May 3, 2026 at Comox Valley Hospital surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his four children; Ken, Neil, Dale and Carole, ten grandchildren; Trevor, Stewart, Katherine, Curtis, Christopher, William, Nick, David, Adam and Rowhan. He also leaves four great grandchildren; Gage, Austin, Summer and Emily.
Fred is predeceased by his wife Mavis (Harrison), his sisters; Evelyn, Dorothy and Bernice, and his brother, Gordon.
Fred was born in Bevan Townsite to Austin and Marjorie Blackburn and was a third generation resident of the Comox Valley.
Fred will be remembered as an avid gardener, backwoods hiker and model airplane enthusiast. He shared his love of the outdoors with the Boy Scouts of the Second Courtenay Scout Troop for many years; leading memorable trips through Forbidden Plateau to camp at Croteau and Circlet Lake and climb Mount Albert Edward.
For all those impacted by Fred's leadership through Scouting we ask that you take time to reflect upon the exceptional experiences he was able to create for you and the legacy this leaves.
In his later years Fred continued to hike and fish with family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
There will be no formal service at Fred's request.
